Olsela Privacy Policy

Olsela is a farm management platform operated by Wafariko Limited (“Wafariko”, “Olsela”, “we”, “us”, or “our”). Olsela provides web and mobile tools that help farmers, farm managers, organisations, and their teams manage agricultural operations, including crops, livestock, inventory, tasks, expenses, sales, production records, reports, and AI-assisted farm insights.

This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect information when you use the Olsela website, web application, Android application, and related services.

1. Information We Collect

Account Information

When you create or use an Olsela account, we may collect information such as:

• Email address
• Phone number
• Organisation or farm name
• Account role and permissions
• Login and authentication information
• Subscription and account status

Passwords are not stored in plain text.

Farm and Operational Information

When you use Olsela, you may provide information relating to your farming activities, including:

• Harvest records
• Farm tasks and calendar activities

This information is used to provide the farm management functionality requested by you.

Mobile Application and Device Information

When you use the Olsela Android application, we may collect limited technical information necessary to operate, secure, update, and understand usage of the application.

This may include:

• A randomly generated Olsela installation identifier
• App version
• App build number
• Device model
• Android operating system version
• Date the application installation was first registered
• Date the installation was last active
• Associated Olsela account or organisation where applicable

Olsela does not use the installation metric to collect your device IMEI or hardware serial number.

We use installation information to understand how many Olsela installations are active, identify app versions still in use, support application updates, diagnose compatibility issues, and improve the mobile application.

Technical and Usage Information

When you access Olsela, our systems may automatically process technical information such as:

• Device and operating system information

3. Olsela AI and AI Agents

Olsela may provide artificial intelligence features through Oli AI, including an AI assistant and farm analysis agents.

When you use these features, information relevant to your request may be processed to generate a response. Depending on the feature, this can include your prompt and relevant Olsela farm information, such as tasks, production information, livestock information, operational records, or financial indicators.

Olsela may use third-party artificial intelligence service providers to process requests necessary to provide these features.

We seek to limit information sent to AI providers to information reasonably necessary to perform the requested function.

AI-generated information may contain errors and should not be treated as a substitute for professional agricultural, veterinary, financial, legal, or other specialist advice.

4. Payments

Where paid subscriptions are available, Olsela may use third-party payment processors to process payments.

Payment processors may collect information necessary to complete a transaction. Olsela may receive transaction information such as:

• Transaction reference
• Amount
• Currency
• Payment status
• Payment method
• Transaction identifier

Sensitive payment credentials handled directly by a payment provider are subject to that provider’s privacy and security practices.

5. How We Share Information

We may share information with service providers where reasonably necessary to operate Olsela, including providers supporting:

• Cloud infrastructure and hosting

• Application monitoring and error reporting
• Artificial intelligence functionality

Where Olsela is provided to you through an organisation, farm, employer, or other customer, authorised administrators of that organisation may be able to access information associated with its Olsela account.

We do not sell or rent personal information to advertisers.

Farm and business information entered into Olsela by a customer remains the customer’s information, subject to the applicable subscription agreement, terms of service, and applicable law.

Wafariko processes this information to provide, maintain, secure, and improve Olsela.

Customers are responsible for ensuring that they have the appropriate authority to enter information relating to employees, farm workers, customers, suppliers, or other individuals into Olsela.

7. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards designed to protect information against unauthorised access, loss, alteration, disclosure, or destruction.

These measures may include:

• Authentication and access controls
• Role-based permissions
• Encryption during transmission
• Secure password storage
• Infrastructure monitoring
• Application logging
• Backups
• Security testing
• Access restrictions
• System and service monitoring

No electronic system can guarantee absolute security. Users are also responsible for protecting their account credentials and devices.

8. Data Retention

We retain information for as long as reasonably necessary to:

Deletion requests do not necessarily require immediate removal of information that we are legally or contractually required to retain.

11. Application Updates

The Olsela Android application may periodically check an Olsela-controlled server for information about newer application versions.

The application may notify you when an update is available and provide the ability to download an updated Android application package.

An update check may involve normal internet connection information, such as your IP address, being processed by the server hosting the update files.

Olsela will not silently install an Android application update without the permissions and installation process required by the Android operating system.

12. Notifications

Olsela may send account, operational, security, subscription, email, or SMS notifications depending on your account configuration and notification preferences.

Certain service or security communications may be necessary for the operation of your account and may not be optional.

13. Cookies and Web Technologies
